Supporting Executives & Aspiring Executives to Grow, Lead & Thrive

Welcome to Executive News, your monthly dose of practical insight, strategic tools, and career inspiration. Self-Awareness, Mental Wellbeing & EQ.

Achieving sustainable success in our careers requires more than just professional skill — it calls for deep self-awareness, a commitment to mental wellbeing, and the ability to manage our emotions and energy effectively.

Recent research reveals a concerning truth: 81% of the Australian workforce battles stress and burnout in silence - HR Leader . (HR Leader). Across the globe, stress management is identified as the most critical skill impacting wellbeing (35%), closely followed by communication, teamwork, coaching, and leadership.

This underscores a powerful insight — thriving at work and in life isn’t just about what we do, but how we manage our inner world. Self-awareness and emotional intelligence are no longer “nice-to-haves”; they are essential foundations for resilience, strong relationships, and effective leadership.

As we move into the final quarter of the year, take time to check in with yourself:

-How are you really feeling — mentally and physically?
-What support do you need to thrive? Who can you reach out to?
-What small adjustments could make a big difference in your energy and focus today?

When we pause to reflect, we gain the clarity and confidence to make choices that align with our values, goals, and wellbeing. Ultimately only we can initiate these changes.

Self-Awareness Is a Superpower: Using Personality Insights to Lead and Grow

A recent article in The Conversation, “Are you really an ISFJ? The truth about personality tests – and why we keep taking them”, sparked my interest as a certified MBTI facilitator and reflection on the way personality assessments are often misunderstood and misused.

“We don’t see things as they are, we see things as we are.” – Anaïs Nin

This simple yet profound quote beautifully captures the essence of why personality assessments—particularly the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)—can be such powerful gateways to self-awareness and personal growth. Click to read further.

Challenging Feedback: The Love–Hate Relationship We Have with It

Feedback is challenging—whether it’s a formal performance review, a comment in a meeting, or reflections after a workshop. No matter how it’s delivered—neutral, constructive, or confronting—it often stirs discomfort. Our natural response can be defensiveness. The reality is: feedback will always feel a little uncomfortable. That’s the price—and the gift—of growth. Book Recommendation, Mind Magic, by Dr. James R Doty

I cannot recommend this book highly enough. Written by Dr. James R. Doty, a renowned neuroscientist, compassionate human being, and thought leader who sadly passed away earlier this year, Mind Magic offers a profound exploration of how our thoughts, beliefs, and emotions shape our reality. I first discovered Dr. Doty’s work through his powerful interview on The Mel Robbins Podcast — “How to Manifest Anything You Want”. But don’t be misled by the word manifestation; this is not the superficial version that saturates social media. Dr. Doty’s approach is grounded in neuroscience and mindfulness — it’s about cultivating self-belief, self-agency, and the capacity to direct our attention and energy toward what truly matters. Whether you prefer the audiobook or hardcover, Mind Magic is a must-read. It will quite literally change the way you think — helping you harness the incredible power of your mind to create a life of greater purpose, presence, and possibility.

*What is one limiting belief or recurring thought that may be holding you back — and how might you reframe it to support your growth and wellbeing this month
